Broken Arm

All I can say is... "when it rains, it pours around our house!!" Today, still recovering from my surgery and still unable to lift my children, the unspeakable happened. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law came down to hang out with us and help me out. We went to Steak-n-Shake to have lunch and while eating, Macy fell out of her chair. Well, like any good mother would do, I told her to "quit crying, dry it up, get back up in her chair and eat her lunch." All with a slightly raised voice. Well, she continued to have a meltdown, so I escorted her to the bathroom to talk some sense into her so that she wouldn't continue to disturb the other patrons. I got her to the bathroom, looked down at her arm, and noticed that it was bent in a place that it is not supposed to be bent. I felt like the worst mother in the world. I picked her up (remember that I am not supposed to do this), took her back to the table and told my family that we were leaving and going to the ER. Panic ensued amongst us all!! I called the pediatrician, who told me to come see him first. He concluded the same as I had that yes, Macy had broken her arm. But thankfully, instead of sending us down to the "professional ER" for them to tell us the same thing, he sent us straight to a Pediatric Orthopaedic Doctor. He also concluded, by x-ray, that she had indeed fractured her ulna. (That is the smaller of the two bones that are between the wrist and the elbow). The unfortunate part is that is broke in such a way that it made her arm bow slightly. So...the doctor put a splint on her until Monday and then we have to go to the hospital, have her sedated, have it set straight, and then a bright, pink, waterproof cast will be put on her arm. Right now, she calls the splint her band aid. She cries alot, whines alot, and asks for alot. And what do you think we are doing....? ....whatever she wants!!

More posts to come on the sedation (aaahhhh) and the hot pink cast!!
